About the role

The Medical Assistant position at Stony Brook Surgical Associates, UFPC Location Centereach, NY, supports physicians and clinical staff. The role involves routine clinical and clerical tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Place patients in examination rooms and document using the electronic medical record.
  • Perform screening and measuring procedures such as height, weight, blood pressure, pulse, temperature.
  • Absorb and prepare patient and equipment for exams and special procedures.
  • Collect blood or other laboratory specimens as directed by the physician.
  • Enter proposed orders into the Electronic Medical Record for review and approval.
  • Obtain previous test results from outside labs, radiology, and physicians' offices.
  • Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets, and physicians' instructions to patients.
  • Clean and sterilize instruments and dispose of contaminated supplies according to regulations.
  • Maintain an adequate supply of medical inventory in each exam room.
  • Ensure the cleanliness of each exam room.
  • Prepare rooms after each patient and for specific procedures as needed.
  • Order supplies as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA and OSHA guidelines.
  • Perform administrative duties such as answering phones, scheduling appointments, etc.
  • Create and update telephone encounters to report and respond to patients’ medical concerns and requests.
  • Adequately follow patient flow protocols (Reception, Registration, Triage, Labs, Escort to Provider).
  • Adequately follow Visit Completion Protocol (Receive encounter and referral forms, Schedule next appointments, Schedule outside referrals, Update visit log).
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned by management.

Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED.
  • Graduate of a Medical Assistant program.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Exceptional customer service and telephone etiquette.
  • Ability to maintain effective and organized systems for timely patient flow.
  • Computer and/or EMR experience.

Pay

The pay range for this position is $20.28 - $25.34 per hour.

Schedule

The schedule for this position is full-time days, Monday through Friday, with hours ranging from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, with hours that may vary.
