Medical Assistant
About the role
The primary purpose of a Medical Assistant is to perform assigned duties in an efficient manner, in accordance with established procedures, and as directed by the Office Manager and/or licensed physician(s) to assure that a successful, viable office is maintained. Responsibilities include selected nursing and administrative/clerical duties that assist in patient care management, minor patient triage, administering first aid, performing laboratory and clinical tests, and assisting the physician in the office environment.
Must care for a patient population that includes infants, adolescents, and geriatrics, therefore, must be able to identify the special needs of each patient according to age and respond appropriately.
Responsibilities
- Perform patient intake and minor triage
- Administer injections and first aid
- Perform phlebotomy and CLIA-waived laboratory tests
- Assist physicians in the office environment
- Document in Electronic Health Records (EHR) or Electronic Medical Records (EMR)
- Perform prior authorizations
- Handle basic data entry, retrieval, and typing of forms, memos, or short letters
Requirements
- High school diploma required
- Technical or vocational training as a Clinical Medical Assistant required
- Certification preferred
- Minimum of one year of experience preferred
- Experience performing prior authorizations
- Basic arithmetic skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division)
- Ten-finger keyboard typing skills
- BLS certification preferred but not required
Skills
- Reading and understanding moderately complex or detailed documents
- Clinical skills related to patient intake, injections, phlebotomy, and CLIA testing
- Computer skills for data entry and EHR/EMR documentation
