About the role
The primary purpose of a Medical Assistant is to perform assigned duties in an efficient manner, in accordance with established procedures, and as directed by the Office Manager and/or licensed physician(s) to ensure a successful, viable office is maintained at all times. Responsibilities include selected nursing and administrative/clerical duties that assist in patient care management, minor patient triage, administering first aid, performing laboratory and clinical tests, and assisting the physician in the office environment. The role requires caring for a patient population that includes infants, adolescents, and geriatrics, with the ability to identify and respond appropriately to the special needs of each age group.
Responsibilities
- Perform patient intake, injections, phlebotomy, CLIA testing, and other clinical medical assistant duties
- Assist in patient care management and minor patient triage
- Administer first aid as needed
- Perform laboratory and clinical tests
- Assist physicians in the office environment
- Identify and respond to the special needs of patients across age groups (infants, adolescents, geriatrics)
- Document patient information in Electronic Health Records (EHR) or Electronic Medical Records (EMR)
Requirements
- High school diploma required
- Technical or vocational training as a Clinical Medical Assistant required
- Certification preferred
- Minimum of one year experience preferred
- Experience performing prior authorizations preferred
Skills
- Ability to read and understand moderately complex or detailed documents containing some unusual words and phrases
- Arithmetic ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers
- Clinical skills related to patient intake, injections, phlebotomy, CLIA testing, and other medical assistant duties
- Typing or word processing for general forms, internal memos, or short letters
- Computer skills for basic data entry and retrieval
- Ten-finger keyboard typing skills required
- Experience using and documenting in EHR or EMR
- BLS certification preferred but not required
