Medical Assistant
About the role
The Saban Community Clinic is seeking a Medical Assistant to support our mission of providing affordable quality Whole Person Care to everyone, regardless of income or immigration status. The ideal candidate will have a certification for Medical Assistant from a California accredited school, minimum of one year of clinical experience in a health care setting, and fluency in another language such as Spanish, Russian, Armenian or Korean preferred.
Responsibilities
- Setting up exam rooms prior to clinic sessions; ensuring all necessary supplies are stocked and available.
- Aiding doctors with examinations and other procedures relating to direct patient care.
- Recording information on patients' vital signs, vision screening, audiometric screenings, spirometric tests, EKGs, and venipuncture.
- Providing information to patients about referrals, follow-up appointments, and test results.
- Conducting birth control and pregnancy counseling sessions for patients upon certified birth control training.
- Utilizing computer and computer programs for data entry (i2i, EHR, CAIR, etc).
- Maintaining inventory of medical supplies.
- Collecting, labeling, and packaging blood, urine, and other specimens in accordance with regulations and patient policy; sending specimens for transport to outside laboratories or storage.
- Performing and reading routine lab tests such as urinalysis, urine pregnancy, hemoglobin, and strep tests; ensuring proper preparation of laboratory specimens to be read by clinicians.
- Cleaning and sterilizing all used equipment, disposing of all specimens and waste according to health and safety guidelines.
- Ensuring all documentation regarding tests, specimens, and supplies is completed and maintained in accordance with clinic procedures and requirements.
Requirements
- Minimum of a Certification for Medical Assistant from a California accredited school.
- Skills in performing venipuncture, audiometry, and spirometry.
- Ability/skill in conducting EKG tests.
- Fluency in another language such as Spanish, Russian, Armenian or Korean preferred.
- Prior clinical experience in a health care setting in a similar community clinic environment preferred.

Compensation
