About the role

RCCA is seeking a dynamic Medical Assistant to support physicians and clinicians in delivering top-notch patient care in a fast-paced clinical setting in Hackensack, NJ. This role is pivotal in ensuring smooth operations and exceptional patient experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients after check-in, escort them to exam rooms, and assist with office visits, lab work, and physician/nurse practitioner appointments.
  • Transport patients safely using appropriate equipment such as wheelchairs.
  • Obtain and document patient vital signs, height, and weight in the electronic medical record.
  • Maintain exam rooms and physician offices by stocking supplies, equipment, and necessary paperwork.
  • Set up for procedures including bone marrow biopsies, lumbar punctures, and other surgical and non-surgical interventions.
  • Collect lab specimens via finger stick or venipuncture as ordered, ensuring proper patient identification and specimen acceptability.
  • Instruct patients on 24-hour urine collection, verifying preservatives and providing refrigeration or acid precautions as needed.
  • Investigate out-of-range lab results and document corrective actions taken.
  • Perform CBC testing on the Hematology Analyzer, review results for acceptability, critical values, or clinically significant changes, and report to physicians.
  • Maintain documentation of lab results and corrective actions; process bone marrow biopsy and other specimens for transport to reference laboratories.
  • Adhere to OSHA safety standards, Universal Precautions, and biohazard waste disposal protocols.
  • Comply with all state, federal, and local regulations, and maintain patient confidentiality under HIPAA guidelines.
  • Demonstrate initiative, strong interpersonal relationships, and teamwork while respecting the chain of command.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Current certification from an accredited program for Certified Medical Assistant or Registered Medical Assistant preferred.

Physical Demands

Full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extensive periods. Occasionally lifts and carries items up to 40 lbs. Requires corrected vision and hearing within normal range.

Work Environment

Exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medical preparations, and other conditions common to an oncology/hematology clinic environment may occur.

Pay

$20.00 – $22.00 per hour; compensation packages based on unique skills, experience, and qualifications.
