Medical Assistant

About the role

The Medical Assistant (MA) will provide a variety of duties under the supervision of the Wellness Center Medical Providers, with primary emphasis on rooming patients and preparing them for their visit.

Responsibilities

• Room patients, including preparing exam rooms and escorting patients, to ensure smooth patient flow throughout the clinic day.
• Collect and record vital signs (blood pressure, weight, temperature, pulse, and other biometrics as needed).
• Perform medication reconciliation at each visit.
• Verify and update patient allergy information.
• Verify patient insurance and eligibility information.
• Interview patients, record medical history, and confirm the purpose of the visit.
• Assist with other tasks as needed, including ear irrigation/flushing, venipuncture/blood draws, wart cryotherapy (freezing), and other minor in‑office procedures as directed by providers.
• Administer vaccinations per protocol or order.
• Provide back‑up/coverage for other clinic tasks as needed.
• Assist with scheduling appointments.
• Support the PT practice as needed, including assistance with scheduling visits and supply inventory.
• Ensure any pre‑visit paperwork is complete or necessary records are collected.
• Secure patient information and maintain patient confidence by completing and safeguarding medical records, completing diagnostic and procedure coding, and keeping patient information confidential.
• Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by establishing and following standards and procedures and complying with legal regulations.
• Assist in maintaining proper inventory stock, placing orders, and verifying receipt.
• Keep equipment operating by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies, performing preventive maintenance, and calling for repairs.
• Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and reading professional publications.
• Serve and protect the practice by adhering to professional standards, policies, and procedures and to federal, state, and local requirements.
• Enhance the practice's reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests and exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
• Perform various clerical and administrative duties.
• Perform other duties as directed by the Wellness Center Medical Director.

Key Qualifications

• Certificate of completion of a Medical Assistant Program (associate degree preferred).
• Compliance with continuing education requirements.
• Hard‑working patient advocate.

• Excellent organizational and communication skills.
• Professionalism with ability to inspire confidence and become a trusted resource for employees.
• HIPAA compliance.
• Proficiency in digital tools and technology, including Microsoft applications and mobile platforms, with ability to adapt and leverage emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence to improve efficiency, automation, and collaboration.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience in a clinical or outpatient setting.
• Previous phlebotomy experience.
• Training in Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) requirements.

Physical Demands

• Ability to lift and move up to 30 lb as needed.
• Ability to use a computer.
• Ability to move between buildings.
