Medical Assistant

About the role

The Medical Assistant position at Optum is responsible for coordinating and assisting healthcare providers to ensure safe, quality, and cost-effective care for patients. This role involves collecting patient data, preparing patients for examinations, maintaining a clean and organized work area, and performing administrative tasks.

Responsibilities

• Collects patient assessment data, including height, weight, vital signs, chief complaints, and current medications
• Prepares patients for provider evaluations by obtaining specimens, positioning for exams, listing medications, and assisting during exams and procedures
• Maintains work area, exam treatment, and lab in a clean, safe manner; restocks supplies as needed
• Assists with lab procedures, collects and prepares blood samples, labels specimens accurately, and assists with diagnostic testing procedures
• Documents patient information in the medical record, including updated treatment procedures, medication refills, test results, and patient concerns
• Affords administrative support by processing scripts, referrals, and authorizations as needed
• Schedules patients for injections and infusions, orders supplies and medications, and manages patient flow efficiently
• Manages inventory by ordering supplies and checking them in and out

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited medical assistant program
• Current, active BLS certification
• One year of clinic experience
• Proficiency with MS Outlook
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients in person and over the phone

Qualifications

• Current MA Certification
• EMR / ECW experience preferred
• Experience with eClinicalWorks preferred
• Experience working in dermatology, gastroenterology, or nephrology specialties preferred
