Medical Assistant
About the role
The Medical Assistant position at Optum is responsible for coordinating and assisting healthcare providers to ensure safe, quality, and cost-effective care for patients. This role involves collecting patient data, preparing patients for examinations, maintaining a clean and organized work area, and performing administrative tasks.
Responsibilities
- Collects patient assessment data, including height, weight, vital signs, chief complaints, and current medications
- Prepares patients for provider evaluations by obtaining specimens, positioning for exams, listing medications, and assisting during exams and procedures
- Maintains work area, exam treatment, and lab in a clean, safe manner; restocks supplies as needed
- Assists with lab procedures, collects and prepares blood samples, labels specimens accurately, and assists with diagnostic testing procedures
- Documents patient information in the medical record, including updated treatment procedures, medication refills, test results, and patient concerns
- Affords administrative support by processing scripts, referrals, and authorizations as needed
- Schedules patients for injections and infusions, orders supplies and medications, and manages patient flow efficiently
- Manages inventory by ordering supplies and checking them in and out
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited medical assistant program
- Current, active BLS certification
- One year of clinic experience
- Proficiency with MS Outlook
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients in person and over the phone
Qualifications
- Current MA Certification
- EMR / ECW experience preferred
- Experience with eClinicalWorks preferred
- Experience working in dermatology, gastroenterology, or nephrology specialties preferred
