Medical Assistant

About the role

The Medical Assistant plays a crucial role in the patient-centered medical home (PCMH) care team, supporting providers, nurses, and other front office staff to ensure efficient patient flow. This position requires a professional, positive attitude, strong interpersonal skills, and a commitment to confidentiality and ethical standards.

Responsibilities

• Administer health questionnaires to patients
• Act as a chaperone during intimate exams
• Update patient information in Epic (EMR system)
• Manage in-basket messages
• Take patient histories and vital signs
• Prepare exam rooms with necessary equipment and supplies
• Absorb and prepare patients for exams and treatments
• Assist with scheduling of tests and treatments
• Maintain adherence to infection control and safety guidelines
• Ensure competency in using clinical equipment and procedures
• Connect language interpretation services when needed
• Support administrative tasks as assigned
• Explore community resources to meet patient needs
• Maintain ongoing networking with local healthcare providers

Qualifications

• Graduated from an accredited Medical Assistant Program
• Experience in a clinical setting
• Familiarity with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems
• Bilingual: Spanish-English or English/Creole
• Ability to interpret medical terminology
• CPR certification required upon hire and recertification bi-annually
