About the role
Medical Assistant will perform both clinical and administrative duties, supporting patient care under the direction of the manager and provider.
Responsibilities
- Prepare exam rooms and patients for examination by the provider.
- Collect records, obtain patients’ medical history, vital signs, and other relevant data.
- Administer injections or give treatments under the direction of the provider.
- Answer phone calls and greet patients/family members entering the facility.
- Obtain insurance authorizations and make referrals.
- Perform all duties according to organizational and departmental policies and procedures.
- Document in AIISIS (if applicable) and obtain prior authorizations for medications.
- Make patient calls for follow‑up appointments and results.
- Deal with the public in a compassionate, high‑paced environment.
Requirements
Required Qualifications
- At least 18 years of age.
- High school education or equivalent.
- Current Medical Assistant certificate of proficiency from an accredited Medical Assistant program.
- Current CPR Certification from the American Heart Association (Healthcare Provider) or other approved educational programs.
- 0–2 years of clinical experience.
- Current Arizona Department of Public Safety fingerprint clearance card (new hires must also complete the application process for this card before being released to their department, if applicable).
- Comfortable giving immunizations and performing venipuncture.
- Experience documenting in AIISIS (if applicable).
- Experience obtaining prior authorizations for medications.
- Pleasant and comfortable making patient calls for follow‑up appointments and results.
- Self‑starter, not requiring direction or micro‑management.
- Ability to deal with the public in a compassionate, high‑paced environment.
- Ability to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Nationally recognized certification (CMA/RMA) from an accredited credentialing body such as NHA, AAMA, NCMA, or AMT.
- Previous experience with Meditech or other related electronic records systems.
- Experience confirming eligibility with insurance companies.
- Bilingual in English/Spanish.
