Medical Assistant
About the role
Medical Assistant I with both clinical and administrative duties. Clinical responsibilities include delegated medical functions under the direction of the manager in the delivery of care for assigned patients. This position also includes preparing exam rooms and patients for examination by the provider, collecting records, obtaining patient’s medical history, vital signs, and other relevant data. May also administer injections or give treatments under the direction of the provider.
Administrative duties include answering phone calls, greeting patients/family members entering the facility, obtaining insurance authorizations, making referrals, and additional support functions as directed. Performs all duties according to organizational and departmental policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
- Prepare exam rooms and patients for examination by the provider
- Collect records, obtain patient’s medical history, vital signs, and other relevant data
- Administer injections or give treatments under the direction of the provider
- Answer phone calls and greet patients/family members entering the facility
- Obtain insurance authorizations and make referrals
- Document in AIISIS (if applicable) and obtain prior authorizations for medications
- Make patient calls for follow-up appointments and results
Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- High school education or equivalent
- Current Medical Assistant certificate of proficiency from an accredited Medical Assistant program
- Maintains current CPR Certification from the American Heart Association (Healthcare Provider) or other approved educational programs
- 0-2 years of clinical experience
- Current Arizona Department of Public Safety fingerprint clearance card (new hires must complete the application process before being released to their department, if applicable)
- Comfortable with giving immunizations and performing venipuncture
- Experience in documenting in AIISIS (if applicable) and obtaining prior authorizations for medications
- Pleasant and comfortable with making patient calls for follow-up appointments and results
- Self-starter, not requiring direction or micro-management
- Able to deal with the public in a compassionate, high-paced environment
- Mental and physical ability to perform, with or without reasonable accommodation, the essential functions of the job
Qualifications
- A nationally recognized certification (CMA/RMA) from an accredited credentialing body, such as the National Healthcareer Associations (NHA), American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), National Certification Medical Association (NCMA), or American Medical Technologists (AMA)
- Previous Meditech experience or other related electronic records systems
- Experience with confirming eligibility with insurance companies
- Bilingual English/Spanish
