About the Role

The Medical Assistant supports the delivery of urological services, performs work as required, and functions as an effective member of the interdisciplinary team. This position collaborates with staff within their practice or other professional disciplines to achieve effective and efficient patient care delivery and desired patient outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Perform various administrative and clinical duties under the direction of an assigned supervisor.
  • Coordinate and schedule patient appointments with physicians, nursing, and other staff members.
  • Greet and prepare patients, measure and record vital signs.
  • Record patient interviews, history, and chief complaints.
  • Provide patient education regarding medications, disease management, home treatments, and special diets.
  • Prepare patients for examinations and perform routine screening tests.
  • Assist physicians with exams, phlebotomy, and collection of lab specimens.
  • Perform basic lab tests, EKGs, and assist with X-ray and physician therapy procedures.
  • Prepare and administer medications with physician authorization.
  • Change dressings, apply bandages, remove sutures, and perform other first aid procedures.
  • Use CPR skills when necessary.
  • Prepare accurate, legal, and ethical documentation at all times.
  • Open and close the office, assist in maintaining patient logs for lab requests, CT scans, and other treatment orders.
  • Maintain prescription ledger as needed.
  • Ensure smooth back-office flow, keep rooms full, and assist with room turnover.
  • Perform thorough work-ups for new patients (e.g., x-rays, vitals, new patient packet explanation).
  • Update medical history for new and established patients accurately.
  • Perform accurate and complete room set-up for physicians.
  • Ensure patient medications are updated before physician visits.
  • Handle set-up for in-office surgical procedures and ensure proper completion of consent forms.
  • Scribe as assigned per physician office flow.
  • Prepare for patient visits the following day, including confirmation of next-day appointments.
  • Complete patient medical record requests when necessary.
  • Assist in the orientation and training of new personnel.
  • Ensure proper handoff of responsibilities once tasks are completed.
  • Adhere to HR and corporate policies and procedures.
  • Ensure all medical records are accurate and complete for all patients.
  • Comply with healthcare regulations, medical laws, and high ethical standards (e.g., OSHA, HIPAA, CMS).
  • Perform other position-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a Medical Assistant program or equivalent experience (based on State regulation requirements).
  • 6 months of experience working within a physician’s office desired; urology experience preferred.

Skills

  • Ability to perform well in stressful situations.
  • Knowledge of healthcare systems operations such as EMR and Practice Management Solutions.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple deadlines.
  • Project management and vendor relations (for ordering office and clinical supplies).
  • Database management and strong problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in computer programs and applications, including Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Exceptional patient service and organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Compliance with HIPAA regulations for patient confidentiality.

Certifications

Certification or registration as a Medical Assistant is preferred.

Schedule

Part-time. Punctual and dependable for assigned/confirmed shifts.

Travel

Minimal travel required.
