Любовь к медицине привела Иванну в школу на курсы Medical Assistant и в профессию медика
My interviewee’s name is Ivanna, a melodic name that evokes blooming flowers and crystal-clear mountain streams. Hailing from Zakarpattia—a region of songs and ancient tales—Ivanna’s speech carries a pleasant Ukrainian lilt. Eight years ago, she and her family (her husband and two daughters) relocated to New York.
Background
From childhood, Ivanna loved healing and tended to animals and family members as a natural caregiver. However, the joy of raising her daughters initially delayed her professional aspirations. After moving to the U.S., the need to support her family led her to English language courses, where she felt uncertain about her skills.
Education and Training
During a conversation with a friend, Ivanna learned about the Medical Assistant program at MBS School. Encouraged, she enrolled and found the environment warmly supportive. The school’s staff, many of whom had also started anew in the U.S., provided guidance to current, former, and prospective students alike.
Her classmates—a mix of newcomers and long-time U.S. residents—shared advice and experiences, fostering a tight-knit community. Even after graduation, they remained in touch, valuing their bonds.
After completing the program, Ivanna trained as a volunteer at Maimonides Medical Center, gaining hands-on experience in a real-world setting. The hospital’s supportive atmosphere helped her thrive, and she successfully passed the NHA certification exam to work as a phlebotomist and perform EKGs.
Current Role
Today, Ivanna is a full-time employee at Maimonides Medical Center, assigned to the Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU)—a testament to the high caliber of MBS School’s training. She conducts patient rounds, performs required medical procedures, and mentors colleagues who lack NHA certifications. Her certification has earned her greater trust and professional confidence.
“I’m happy here,” Ivanna shares. “My dream has come true. I feel more prepared and professional, and I encourage others to pursue education like I did.”
Reflections
Ivanna credits MBS School for providing not just knowledge but also social and personal stability. She recently suggested the school offer an advanced course, eager to continue learning. Her journey—from uncertainty to fulfillment—serves as inspiration: “If I could do it, so can you!”
Grateful for the opportunities, Ivanna concludes: Дякую за все.
