Medical Assistant
About the role
The Orthopaedic Center is seeking a full-time Medical Assistant (MA) to assist various orthopedic physicians under the direction of the Clinical Coordinator. Responsibilities include performing general nursing duties, suturing/stapling removal, wound care/dressing changes, drawing up and calling in medications, applying sterile fields, removing casts and splints, locating necessary imaging/test results, scheduling and precertifying MRI’s, lab work, procedures, and surgeries, preparing for clinics by printing patient information, restocking supplies, powering up computers, escorting patients to and from exam rooms, and providing patient education and communication.
Responsibilities
- Assist with drawing up and calling in medications
- Apply sterile fields and remove casts and splints
- Locate necessary imaging, test results or reports for upcoming appointments
- Schedule and precertify MRI’s, lab work, procedures, and surgeries
- Prepare for clinic by printing out patient information as requested by physicians, restocking supplies for clinic, power up computers, etc.
- Absorb and verify pre-op labs and schedule surgery clearances as needed
- Fill out disability, return-to-work, and insurance forms
- Obtain physician signature on miscellaneous forms
- Travel locally to satellite offices as schedule requires
- Communicate with patients, TOC physicians and staff through friendly and professional patient communication including answering and returning patient phone calls, appointment/surgery reminder calls, responding to and charting patient messages, and communicating test results to patients with direction from physicians
- Provide various forms of patient education and handouts
- Escort patients to and from exam rooms
Requirements
Education required: High School Diploma/GED. License, Certification and/or Registration: ROT or CCMA certification required by first 90 days of employment. Experience: Minimum one-year full-time clinical experience in healthcare preferred. Additional Skills/Abilities: Ability to communicate effectively with patients, TOC physicians and staff, work under pressure, multitask and meet deadlines, excellent organizational, verbal and writing skills, independent, self-starting and highly motivated, strong patient care and interpersonal skills, proven positive, "teamwork" attitude in work history.
Qualifications
