Ortho Access walk-in clinics provide same-day care for orthopedic injuries. About the Role

This position is responsible for performing daily administrative and clinical duties to facilitate efficient operations in an outpatient clinic setting. This position provides support in delivering safe, quality care and customer service to patients, physicians/providers, and other members of the clinical care teams.

Responsibilities

  • Escorts patients to exam rooms on a timely basis and keeps team members informed regarding delays.
  • Prepares patients for appropriate examination, triaging as necessary for radiologic studies, cast removal, etc.
  • Assists physicians in the patient examination process, including wound care, splint/cast applications, and removals.
  • Processes prescriptions per physician order and instructs/educates patients regarding medication side effects.
  • Prepares injectable medications and equipment as needed.
  • Coordinates referrals for ongoing services/needs (e.g., therapy services, home health, surgical procedures, DME).
  • Acts as a patient intermediary/liaison for resolution of patient problems.
  • Sets up instruments and equipment according to department protocol; cleans exam/procedure rooms, instruments, and equipment between patient visits to maintain infection control.
  • Checks schedules and organizes patient flow; assists patients with walking, transfers, dressing, collecting specimens, and preparing for exams.
  • Collects patient history, performs screenings per provider guidelines, and assists with various procedures.
  • Relays instructions to patients/families and answers calls with pertinent information.
  • Responds to incoming phone calls and determines the best method for resolution, channeling requests appropriately.
  • Secures charts related to diagnostic tests, physical/occupational therapy reports, and discusses issues with physicians.
  • Assists in scheduling appointments for new/established patients and secures approvals for special needs appointments.
  • Sends prescriptions, workers’ compensation updates, and completes various forms (e.g., attending physician statements, disability forms, jury duty requests).
  • Obtains lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, and completes forms/requisitions as needed.
  • Verifies insurance coverage and patient demographics; manages charts to ensure information is completed and filed appropriately.
  • Prepares clinical charts prior to patient appointments, ensuring all necessary data (x-rays, MRI results, lab reports, etc.) is secured.
  • Notifies management when clinic supplies are low and ensures exam rooms are clean, orderly, and fully stocked.
  • Participates in learning new systems and serves as an informational contact for patients and families.
  • Notifies patients of delays and responds appropriately to inquiries or complaints.
  • Maintains a professional image and attends mandatory in-service programs.
  • Fulfills organizational responsibilities, including respecting/promoting patient rights and responding to emergency codes.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of an accredited Medical Assistant Program is a plus.
  • Maintains CPR certification.
  • Experience in an orthopedic healthcare setting is preferred.
  • Able to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of practice management and EHR software, Google products, Microsoft Office, and Windows-based computer applications.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well with physicians, patients, and staff at all levels.
  • Able to develop constructive and cooperative working relationships.

Physical Demands

  • Full range of body motion, including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
  • Involves standing and walking for extended periods.
  • Occasional lifting associated with patient transfers (up to 35 lbs).

Pay

$18-$25/hour based on education and experience.
