Position Goal
Assist Physician(s) in clinic with patient care activities and complete administrative duties as required.
Responsibilities
- Familiarity with physician requirements for a productive clinic.
- Review and maintain charts to ensure completeness and adherence to EMR guidelines.
- Escort patients from the waiting area to triage, accommodating varying mobility levels.
- Monitor schedules and patient flow to maximize efficiency and organization.
- Review initial vital signs and collect lab specimens.
- Remove staples, sutures, and assist with minor surgical procedures.
- Assist with placement, removal, and instruction of devices such as splints, immobilizers, braces, and bandages.
- Clean and sterilize equipment using approved techniques.
- Stock exam rooms, change sheets on exam tables after each patient.
- Communicate restrictions and instructions to patients.
- Follow up with patients post-surgery or invasive procedures to document progress.
- Coordinate with outside facilities for scheduling tests or surgeries, ensuring necessary orders, pre-certifications, or referrals are ready.
- Complete insurance, disability, and FMLA forms in a timely manner.
- Assist in administrative duties, including collecting past-due balances, check-in/check-out, scheduling appointments/procedures/surgeries, pre-certifying procedures, verifying insurance, data entry, posting charges, and supporting secretaries.
Requirements
- MA Certification or minimum of one (1) year of work experience as a Medical Assistant required.
- Orthopaedics experience preferred.
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- BLS certification required.
- Working knowledge of HIPAA requirements.
- Knowledge of the healthcare field and medical specialty.
- Valid driver’s license and satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) upon hire; MVR screened annually.
- Ability to work independently.
- Local travel via personal vehicle required.
