- 1-2 years of experience in orthopedics, spine surgery, or pain management (preferred)
- In lieu of experience: Formal training program within the last 12-18 months with CMA certificate; or grandfathered in as defined by State regulation
- Experience with office medical procedures and treatments, and knowledge of insurance, managed care operations, EMR, and scheduling software
- Certification or additional training meeting meaningful use requirements
- High school diploma/GED and accredited Medical Assistant training program as defined by state regulations (preferred)
- Two years of experience in an outpatient physical therapy clinic (preferred)
- Experience with orthopedics (preferred)
- Facilitates communication between patient and provider during patient care
- Collects and shares pertinent information with the provider
- Acts on provider directives
- Prepares patient for visit with the provider
- Rooming patients, obtaining and documenting vitals, reviewing intake paperwork, pulling up radiology images, removing dressings, procedure set-up, injection prep, accurate data entry into EMR
- Completes tasks associated with Company initiatives such as PROs, Quality Payment Programs, etc.
- Maintains exam room standards
- Rooms should be restocked at the end of each clinic day. Rooms and tables should be cleaned as needed during the clinic and at the end of each day
- Monitors biohazard and sharps containers and replaces them as needed
- Aid in preparing patient prescriptions and completing medical and patient forms (i.e. work release, FMLA, etc.)
- Retrieves and responds to voicemails within 24 business hours and documents actions in EMR
- Prepares patient electronic charts for clinic visits before the date of service
- Verifies any outstanding testing results are in EMR, confirms the appropriateness of the patient to the provider (body part and/or insurance), notes imaging, DME, or casting needed prior to provider visit on the date of service
- Scans clinical documents into EMR
- Prints clinic schedules on the morning of the date of service
- Ensures patient receives education as indicated by the provider
- Manages EMR desktops of assigned providers in a timely manner
- Acts as PTO Buddy per clinic plan
- Create and promote a positive patient experience
- Maintain HIPAA compliant environment
- Maintain clean workspace
