About the role

The Medical Assistant will support the daily operations of the gastroenterology office by providing clinical and administrative assistance to physicians, clinicians, and patients. This role is essential in ensuring smooth patient flow, accurate electronic record-keeping, and optimal patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare patients for examination and treatment by taking vital signs, medical history, and documenting information in the electronic medical record (EMR) system
  • Enter recalls and handle new prescription/prescription refills as directed by the physician
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers and other team members to ensure patient care is delivered seamlessly and safely
  • Maintain strict adherence to infection control protocols and safety standards
  • Triage phone calls accordingly
  • Conduct physician referrals as well as service pre-certifications on an as-needed basis
  • Maintain patient records, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA regulations
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Duties and responsibilities may change to meet the evolving needs of the company. Employees may be required to perform additional tasks as assigned by management.

Requirements

  • Certification of Completion of accredited MA program (CMA or RMA) is preferred
  • 1+ year of experience in a clinical setting
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with patients, providers, and team members
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to adapt to a fast-paced, dynamic work environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Proficiency in electronic medical record (EMR) systems and basic computer skills

Physical Demands

The employee is frequently required to walk, sit, use hands for fine manipulation, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms using a keyboard and video display terminal. The employee is occasionally required to stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb stairs. The employee should be able to exert up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally and lift or move up to 25 lbs. The work environment is typically quiet to moderate with standard office and procedure room noise levels. The Medical Assistant must observe safe practice criteria in assisting patients.
