General Responsibilities
- Assist physicians with examinations, procedures, and collecting specimens.
- Manage a smooth office flow by assessing and anticipating physician schedules and using clinical space effectively.
- Take patient histories, vital signs, and record information in the EMR system.
- Prepare patients for procedures, including pelvic exams, IUD insertions, Nexplanon insertions and removals, and colposcopies.
- Perform phlebotomy duties and point-of-care tests such as urinalysis, glucose monitoring, and pregnancy tests.
- Prepare, label, and process collected specimens, and ensure timely delivery of specimens to appropriate designation.
- Maintain appropriate lab logs during sessions.
- Clean and maintain examination and treatment rooms daily.
- Manage equipment and supply inventory, including the routine review and removal of expired medical supplies.
- Process, sterilize, and organize instruments daily.
- Manage and track patient flow from arrival until exam room departure using the EMR system, including welcoming and informing patients of any delays.
- Serve as a liaison between physicians, patients, and staff.
- Function as a team member, including being flexible, able to work additional hours when needed, and providing backup coverage to other medical assistants in the practice.
- Maintain professional demeanor at all times with patients, physicians, and coworkers.
- Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned by physicians.
- Comply with all HIPAA regulations and office safety compliance guidelines.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of a Medical Assistant program preferred.
- Previous experience in a hospital or clinical setting is highly desirable.
- Proficient knowledge of medical terminology and basic life support (BLS) procedures.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to provide exceptional patient service.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Basic knowledge of anatomy and medical procedures.
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment while maintaining composure.
- Previous experience in a clinical or hospital environment, preferably in OBGYN.
- Active Certified Medical Assistant license.
- Knowledgeable in assisting physicians with medical procedures.
- Minimum of two years of experience as Certified Medical Assistant.
- Excellent assessment skills, ability to work collaboratively in a team setting.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Work independently and effectively in a busy environment.
- Knowledgeable of EMR’s (preferably eCW) and regulatory practices.
