About the role
Elite DNA Behavioral Health is seeking a full-time Medical Assistant for our Oviedo office. Medical assistants perform routine administrative and clinical tasks to keep the offices of physicians and other health practitioners running smoothly. They are instrumental in helping patients feel at ease and often explain the physician's instructions. Medical assistants are cross-trained to perform both administrative and clinical duties and are responsible for patient care under the direction of a physician or licensed health care provider.
Responsibilities
- Provide services to individuals and coordination/support to psychiatrists, PAs, and APRNs.
- Initiate and complete all relevant documentation within organizational time frames.
- Perform duties in a prioritized, organized, and orderly manner to maximize clinic efficiency and productivity.
- Collaborate with team members and other staff to ensure a complete, appropriate, and positive experience for all clients.
- Follow instructions and complete job duties as assigned by providers and management staff.
- Ensure medication history is accurate when taking vitals, removing all medications the patient is not currently taking.
- Perform genetic testing, educate patients, submit tests, and follow up on results for the provider’s next visit.
- Welcome clients, escort them to examination rooms, and prepare them for the physician in a timely and welcoming manner.
- Perform medical assessments including blood pressure, height, and weight; provide appropriate and timely documentation.
- Take medical histories and assist the physician and nurse with direct client care.
- Handle tasks such as filing, chart documentation, faxes, prescription medical programs, and telephone follow-up as assigned.
- Maintain, copy, and file patient records and other information as needed.
- Monitor voicemails throughout the day, return calls, and resolve issues within 24 hours; document each interaction.
- Triage patient phone calls (incoming and voicemail) and document interactions within 24 hours.
- Review Athena messages and inbox; respond and document accordingly.
- Discuss patient concerns with the respective provider within 24 hours of receiving a call, email, voicemail, or message; document appropriately.
- Take medication orders from psychiatrists/APRNs/PAs, phone them into the pharmacy if needed, and confirm with the client within 24 hours; document all interactions.
- Prepare medication refill requests within 24 hours of receiving them; verify pharmacy information, last visit, last fill, insurance, and pickup/mail details.
- Handle prior authorizations within 24 hours of receiving requests from the pharmacy or insurance company; document all interactions.
- Update medications and respective information in patient charts.
- Provide guidance and education to patients on prescribed medications, including when and where to obtain them.
- Provide information for the after-hours call line and document interactions in the patient chart.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- One year of experience in healthcare or medical staff services preferred.
- Medical Assisting certification preferred.
Skills
- Proficient oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent attention to detail, problem-solving, and customer service.
- Positive interpersonal relationship skills with individuals and groups in a variety of settings.
- Knowledge of medical terminology is essential.
- Effectively uses Electronic Health Records (EHR).
- Knowledge of CPT & ICD-10 coding procedures.
- Knowledge of medication procedures.
