Location: Crystal Coast Pain Management • Full-Time • Clinical Department

About the role

The Certified Medical Assistant supports the pain clinic by performing both clinical and administrative tasks that assist clinicians. Daily responsibilities include patient check-in, prior authorizations, and documenting medical information in the electronic medical records (EMR) system.

Responsibilities

  • Verify patient information by interviewing patient, recording medical history, and confirming purpose of visit.
  • Obtain full set of vital signs: BP, pulse, weight, height, pain scale.
  • Prepare patients for examination by provider and assist provider as needed.
  • Collect and prepare laboratory specimens such as urine drug screens (UDS) and oral swabs.
  • Collaborate with clinical staff to review UDS reports for inconsistencies and report to provider.
  • Prepare and administer medications as directed by providers, including IM injections.
  • Handle prescription refills, check CSR, process medication prior authorizations, send refills to provider for e-scribing, and instruct patients about medications.
  • Perform pill disposal, remove sutures, assist with spinal cord stimulator (SCS) trial lead removal, and change dressings.
  • Manage referrals and authorizations for physical therapy.
  • Obtain authorizations for MRI and CT imaging, schedule imaging, and communicate scheduling information and pre-procedure prep to patients.
  • Explain pre-procedure and post-procedure instructions to patients.
  • Keep exam rooms stocked, cleaned, and organized.
  • Assist other team members as needed.
  • Conduct themselves in a professional and pleasant manner at all times.

Administrative Duties

  • Answer telephones.
  • Greet patients.
  • Update patient electronic medical records.
  • Schedule appointments.

Requirements

  • High school diploma.
  • Minimum of 1-year medical assisting experience.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Proficiency with EMRs.

Skills

  • Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with staff, physicians, and external customers.
  • Strong ability to multitask and transition between projects as needed.
  • Resolve problems or determine appropriate courses of action in a timely manner.
  • Strong time management, follow-through, and organizational skills.

Work Environment

  • Work performed in an office environment.
  • Involves frequent contact with physicians, leadership, and medical office staff.
  • Physical activity can be irregular and fast-paced.
