MEDICAL ASSISTANT

About the role

This position performs routine medical assistant functions under the direction of the Medical Practice Manager. Duties include taking vital signs, drawing blood, processing specimens, scheduling labs, and assisting with patient transfers.

Responsibilities

• Takes and documents blood pressure, pulse, temperature, height, and weight in the EMR
• Draws blood and processes specimens according to Infection Control protocols and MD orders
• Orders laboratory tests and tracks results
• Schedules and coordinates home draw labs
• Centrifuges and refrigerates specimens as required
• Performs EKGs and other routine tests
• Transports participants via wheelchair or assists with transfers
• Assists with customer issues and grievances
• Provides coverage for the Front Desk Area as needed

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Medical technician training
• Vision screening training
• At least 1 year of venipuncture experience, preferably with the elderly population
• Computer literacy
• Bilingual in Bengali
• Medical Assistant Certification (must be certified Phlebotomist); EKG
• Superior customer service skills, friendly, outgoing personality, tactful and courteous
• Strong interpersonal/people skills
• Able to work in a fast-paced environment
• Able to use all equipment as dictated by the position
• Able to sustain certain physical requirements essential to the job
• Able to travel and walk between sites/locations and work areas throughout the day

Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent
• Experience: At least 1 year of venipuncture experience, preferably with the elderly population
• License/Registration: Medical Assistant Certification (must be certified Phlebotomist); EKG
• Other: Bilingual in Bengali, superior customer service skills, friendly, outgoing personality, tactful and courteous, strong interpersonal/people skills, able to work in a fast-paced environment, able to use all equipment as dictated by the position, able to sustain certain physical requirements essential to the job, able to travel and walk between sites/locations and work areas throughout the day, able to attend to tasks lasting from 10-90 minutes, able to work with or without supervision, able to establish a good rapport with participants and peers, able to demonstrate good decision-making, reasonableness, cognitive ability, rational processing, and analysis to satisfy essential functions of the job
