About the role

This position performs routine medical assistant functions under the direction of the Medical Practice Manager. Duties include taking vital signs, drawing blood, processing specimens, scheduling labs, and assisting with patient transfers.

Responsibilities

  • Takes and documents blood pressure, pulse, temperature, height, and weight in the EMR
  • Draws blood and processes specimens according to Infection Control protocols and MD orders
  • Orders laboratory tests as per physician’s orders and tracks results
  • Schedules and follows up on home draw labs
  • Performs EKGs and other routine tests according to policy and best practices
  • Transports participants via wheelchair or assists with transfers
  • Assists with customer issues and grievances
  • Provides coverage for the Front Desk Area as needed

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Medical technician training
  • Vision screening training
  • At least 1 year of venipuncture experience, preferably with the elderly population
  • Computer literacy
  • Spanish bilingual
  • Medical Assistant Certification (must be certified Phlebotomist)
  • EKG certification

Physical Requirements

  • Standing for up to 6 hours a day
  • Sitting for up to 6-8 hours a day for consecutive periods
  • Lifting up to 50 pounds of equipment, baggage, supplies, and patients safely
  • Bending, squatting, climbing stairs, walking, and maneuvering steps
  • Agility and fine motor skills to operate and activate equipment, devices, instruments, and tools
  • Sight and visual requirements to assess patients, read orders, and document information accurately
  • Auditory hearing and motor skills (language) to listen attentively and communicate clearly
  • Cognitive ability to make decisions, reason, and analyze information
