Medical Assistant
About the role
The Medical Assistant plays a crucial role in the medical care team, serving as the primary point of contact between patients and physicians. Their responsibilities include escorting and preparing patients for exams and treatments, documenting patient intake, taking and documenting vital signs, assisting physicians with medical procedures, drawing blood for laboratory evaluation, preparing laboratory specimens, and handling front office duties such as answering phones and scheduling appointments. They also assist with other tasks as needed.
Responsibilities
- Escort and prepare patients for exams and treatments
- Document patient intake
- Take and document vital signs
- Absorb and assist physicians with medical procedures
- Draw blood for laboratory evaluation
- Prepare laboratory specimens
- Handle front office duties (answer phones, schedule appointments)
- Assist with other tasks as necessary
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- BLS Certification within 90 days of employment
- Medical Assistant Certification (preferred), Phlebotomy Certification, or EMT-BC
- Candidates with current or former nursing experience are encouraged to apply
- Must be a quick learner and capable of learning independently
- Must be able to take manual vital signs when necessary
- Ability to perform IM injections is a plus
