Responsibilities
- Generate encounters for all medical visits and prepare all required forms.
- Schedule patient appointments, print appointment cards and referrals.
- Provide administrative duties for patient care, including:
- CIR immunization records (for all children)
- Abnormal letters and no-show letters
- Filling out CPE forms and immunization cards
- Faxing prescriptions to pharmacies
- Provide translation during patient visits.
- Perform vitals on patients according to visit type, including but not limited to:
- Blood pressure (BP) and heart rate (HR)
- Temperature
- Patient Expiration Flow (PEF) for patients with asthma history
- Pulse oximeter for patients with COPD history
- Obtain patients' height and weight for each visit.
- Conduct annual vision and hearing screenings for children.
- Obtain social history yearly, including:
- Audit C screening
- DAST screening
- Language services and specific impairment documentation
- Obtain Annual Comprehensive Assessment, covering:
- Communication needs
- Behaviors affecting health
- Family characteristics
- Health literacy
- Depression screening
- Obtain tobacco use screening annually.
- Assist providers with procedures such as:
- EKG
- Labs
- Blood sugar and hemoglobin readings
- Pregnancy tests and urine dipsticks
- Assist nursing in assessing patients without appointments according to guidelines.
- Open and close lab; process all lab tests performed at the center.
- Keep exam and lab rooms stocked and dispose of expired supplies.
- Provide patient education, including:
- Infection control instructions
- Use of glucometer and blood pressure machine
- Work as part of the clinical Population Health Teams to assist in patient compliance, including:
- Generating letters
- Patient education
- Outreach to patients
- Monitoring QA outcomes with the team
- Assist with friendly handoff if provider refers patient to case manager or social work.
- Review huddle sheets at the beginning of each shift with the provider and document within chief complaint and patient needs.
- Perform additional duties as required by the Nurse Manager, Charge Nurse, and Lead Medical Assistant.
Requirements
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Medical Assistant Certification or AA degree in Medical Assisting required.
- 1+ years of administrative experience necessary.
- Bilingual preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written skills required.
- Knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, and Access) a plus.
- High energy level, initiative, and attention to detail.
- Strong teamwork, organizational, analytical, and listening skills.
- Reliable, detail-oriented, self-starter with excellent interpersonal skills.
About the Role
Under the supervision of the RN and/or LPN, the Medical Assistant will assist the medical provider in patient care and manage patient flow during patient care sessions. The Medical Assistant will be integrated into the Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH+), working in partnership with the healthcare team to promote the quadruple aim of improved population health, improved patient experience, reducing cost of care, and improved physician experience.
