About the Role
Perform clinical duties under the direction of a physician. This individual ensures that supplies and equipment are available to facilitate efficient, effective care. A friendly, caring, courteous, and professional attitude is essential, as this role involves front-line contact with patients and families.
Responsibilities
- Record patients' medical history, vital statistics, or information such as test results in medical records.
- Interview patients to obtain medical information and measure their vital signs, weight, and height.
- Accompany patients to the appropriate exam room; assist patients as needed with walking, transfers, dressing, and preparing them for the physician.
- Provide personal assistance, medical attention, emotional support, or other personal care to patients or coworkers.
- Document and record information by entering, storing, or maintaining data in written or electronic form.
- Obtain information by observing, receiving, and otherwise gathering data from relevant sources.
- Communicate with supervisors, peers, patients, and physicians through accurate messages/instructions via telephone, written form, email, or in person.
- Use computers and electronic medical records to enter data or process information.
- Clean according to scheduled maintenance programs, manage inventory of supplies, and assist with ordering patient care supplies.
- Restock treatment rooms, exam rooms, and procedure rooms.
- Monitor and track prescriptions sent as eRX and refill requests.
- Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations, set up instruments and equipment according to department protocol.
- Fill out lab requisitions for pathology and arrange pickups at labs where patients' insurance is accepted.
- Send orders for labs, imaging, referrals, or medications to appropriate facilities when ordered by the provider.
- Call and schedule STAT requests for patients before they leave the office.
- Request prior authorization from insurance as necessary.
- Monitor biohazard and sharps daily according to OSHA standards.
- Restock, manage, and check expiration dates for all supplies in rooms and storage.
- Answer clinical phone calls, check messages hourly, and return all calls before lunch, mid-afternoon, and prior to leaving for the day.
- Comply with all AZCCC policies and procedures.
- Maintain strict confidentiality related to medical records and other data.
- Work shifts as assigned; scheduled shifts/locations may rotate according to clinic needs.
- Perform other duties as directed by providers and practice administrator.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Successful completion of a medical assistant program.
- Medical assistant certification.
- Valid CPR certification.
- Computer experience with EMR (Electronic Medical Records) knowledge.
- Strong medical terminology skills.
- Excellent phone etiquette and exceptional customer service skills.
- Excellent work ethic, including integrity, positive attitude, productivity, organization, and respect for leadership.
- Excellent attendance, continuous learning, and willingness to ask for assistance.
- Ability to work efficiently and effectively in a detail-oriented, fast-paced setting.
Working Conditions
- Medical office setting.
- Able to work 40 hours per week.
- Moderate noise levels from medical setting and equipment.
- Standing for long periods of time.
- Ability to see details at close range.
- Ability to listen and understand information through spoken words and sentences.
- Ability to read and understand written information.
- Ability to communicate information verbally so others will understand.
- Daily use of hands to type, file, and write/sign documents.
- Minimum lifting requirements of 25 pounds to transfer equipment, assist patients with positioning, and pack/unpack supplies.
- Frequent bending, twisting, and position changes to assist patients.
