About the role
The Medical Assistant will assist Physicians and other Providers by preparing procedure trays, ensuring adequate supplies for the department and assisting with patient care. Anne Arundel Dermatology, founded 50+ years ago, provides comprehensive dermatology services across 110+ locations in 7 states.
Responsibilities
- Room patients and document intake.
- Obtain and record vital signs.
- Organize patient flow.
- Setup procedure tray, instruments, and equipment according to instructions.
- Absorb and prepare for dermatology procedures.
- Prepare Path/lab specimens, route to correct lab directed by patient insurance plan.
- Respond to patient questions in office and on phone as instructed.
- Review and address clinical task lists and nurse line messages.
- Calibrate, clean, sterilize and inventory all equipment & instruments according to schedule.
- Maintain medication supplies, discard out-of-date supplies, and keep appropriate records.
- Maintain infection control and make sure supply rooms and cabinets are stocked.
- Order, sort, restock and inventory of all supplies.
- Accurately document patient information and scribe provider notes in the EMR.
- Absorb and administer local anesthetic.
- Ensure all phone messages, faxes, and interdepartmental mail are addressed in a timely manner.
- Maintain HIPAA compliance.
- Other duties assigned as deemed necessary by management.
- Triage patient concerns.
- Be familiar with and comply with OSHA/HIPAA, infection control & Blood Borne Pathogen Standards.
- Experience measuring vital signs and preparing patients for appointments.
- Experience administering injections.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, CPT and ICD-10 codes.
- Knowledge of office financial policies.
- Basic computer skills and experience in EMR utilization.
- Able to operate standard office equipment (i.e. computer, fax, copier, scanner, etc).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Fluent in English.
- Able to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
- Able to work in an effective, cooperative, and courteous manner with staff, patients, and visitors.
- Must be able to travel to satellite offices as needed.
- Able to multi-task, prioritize appropriately, and work well both individually and as part of a team.
- Able to read, understand and follow oral and written instruction.
- Able to spell, sort and file materials correctly alphabetically or numerically.
Requirements
- High School Graduate or GED required.
- Completion of a Medical Assistant Program, Certified Nursing Assistant program or completion of a bachelor’s degree program in the pre-med or pre-physician assistant track preferred.
- CPR certified preferred.
- 1-2 years of recent experience as a Medical Assistant, Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), or other clinical patient care experience preferred.
- Previous experience in Dermatology is preferred.
Qualifications
- Education and Experience: High School Graduate or GED required. Completion of a Medical Assistant Program, Certified Nursing Assistant program or completion of a bachelor’s degree program in the pre-med or pre-physician assistant track preferred. CPR certified preferred. 1-2 years of recent experience as a Medical Assistant, Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), or other clinical patient care experience preferred.
