Job Description
Aid physicians in conducting medical procedures within the office setting. Responsibilities include phlebotomy, laboratory testing, quality control, instrument troubleshooting, and equipment maintenance. Key responsibilities involve:
- Performing quality control procedures before patient testing.
- Carrying out laboratory blood work and blood draws.
- Following laboratory procedures for specimen handling and processing.
- Maintaining accurate and precise technical laboratory procedures to meet regulatory standards.
- Preparing blood or bone marrow slides for evaluation, sending specimens to external labs, and documenting results in patient charts.
- Documenting vital signs, patient height, weight, pain levels, and conducting depression screenings.
- Assisting with medical procedures such as bone marrows, fine needle aspirations, paracentesis, and pelvic exams.
- Charging patients for services rendered and documenting all steps in the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Showing physicians critical blood counts and preparing scans and CDs for review.
- Maintaining laboratory inventory and placing orders as needed.
- Initiating troubleshooting procedures for instrument malfunctions and contacting service companies when necessary.
- Performing EKG tests when required.
- Maintaining compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Ensuring confidentiality of patient information.
- Training new employees on related job duties.
- Working at multiple AON locations as needed.
- Performing overtime as required.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- BLS certification required.
- Valid driver’s license and vehicle for travel to other clinic locations.
- One year of experience as a medical assistant in a clinic or physician’s office, including venipuncture skills.
