Job Description
Aid physicians with medical procedures in the office setting. Responsibilities include phlebotomy, laboratory testing, quality control, instrument troubleshooting, and maintenance. Key areas of responsibility include:
- Performing quality control procedures before patient testing.
- Carrying out laboratory blood work and blood draws.
- Maintaining accurate and precise technical laboratory procedures.
- Preparing blood or bone marrow slides for evaluation.
- Handling and processing specimens according to regulatory standards.
- Documenting all testing and treatment in the medical record and EMR.
- Assisting with scheduling outside testing, referrals, and admissions.
- Showing critical blood counts and preparing encounter forms.
- Obtaining vital signs, height, weight, pain levels, and conducting PHQ9 depression screenings.
- Preventing instrument malfunctions and contacting service companies when necessary.
- Performing EKG testing as needed.
- Maintaining laboratory compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Ensuring confidentiality of patient information.
- Training new employees on related job duties.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- BLS certification required.
- Valid driver's license and vehicle for travel to other clinic locations.
- One year experience as a medical assistant in a clinic or physician’s office.
