Position Summary
The Medical Assistant provides direct patient care, acts as a patient advocate, and supports patients and families throughout the healthcare system.
Responsibilities
- Assists providers, prepares rooms, collects specimens, administers medications, documents electronic health records, and helps with patient discharge.
- Assists with self-management goals, insurance and referrals, conducts outreach after hospital stays, retrieves medical records, and helps with pharmacy questions.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED from an accredited institution
- Graduation from an approved medical assistant training program
- A minimum of three (3) years’ experience working as a Medical Assistant in a health care setting, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience
- Certification to perform cardiopulmonary Resuscitation for the Health Care Professional (CPR) and AED through courses that follow the guidelines from the American Heart Association and Red Cross (cognitive and skills evaluations)
- Valid Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card issued by the Arizona Department of Public Safety for all specialty behavioral health locations
- Effective communication demonstrated by ability to read, interpret, comprehend and comply with written and verbal communication
- Proficient mathematical skills for use in a healthcare setting
- Basic computer proficiency to include Windows, MS Office, and internet
- Ability to problem solve in situations both independently or with support from team and/or leadership
- Ability to multi-task and work effectively in a high-stress and fast-moving environment
- Must have reliable transportation that can meet any operational reassignments of the organization during the workday
