Position Summary

The Medical Assistant Associate (MAA) position at University Health and Counseling (UHC) offers a unique opportunity to provide care for University of Michigan students, faculty, and staff. This role involves both patient care and administrative support, and plays a crucial role within the University and UHC.

Responsibilities

  • Patient Intake/Patient care (80%)
    • Responds to patient inquiries
    • Rooms patients (virtually and in person)
    • Takes vitals and other measurements, medical histories, medication reconciliation documentation
    • Prepares medical information and reports
    • Manages stretchers and beds
    • Administers injections and immunizations
    • Performs medical laboratory/Point of Care (POC) testing
    • Documents into MiChart
    • Acts as a chaperone during sensitive exams
    • Documents normal test results
  • Administrative and Clinical Workflow Support (20%)
    • Prepares and organizes clinical and procedure rooms
    • Tracks clinic patient flow
    • Cleans, stocks, and organizes clinic spaces
    • Maintains inventory and manages PAR levels
    • Processes forms and in-basket messages through MiChart
    • Aids with prescription or procedure prior authorizations
    • Supports orientation and/or shadowing opportunities
    • Participates in regulatory readiness processes
    • Supports safety liaisons and MIChart upgrades

Required Qualifications

  • One or more years of experience as a MA or equivalent
  • One or more years experience in an outpatient clinic
  • Experience with CLIA waived testing

Desired Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited medical assistant school
  • Certified or registered as a Medical Assistant
  • Student health service experience
  • Previous experience with MiChart
  • Bi-lingual or multi-lingual skills

Working Conditions

This is a full-time, 40 hours per week position. Available to work 8 hour shifts between 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM, Monday through Friday, and Saturday and Sunday rotation working 9:00 AM- 1:00 PM as needed. Summer and some holiday hours change with no Saturday rotations. Must be able to work occasional overtime, based on patient care needs.

Physical Requirements

Able to maintain a standing position for extended periods of time, and move and transport objects weighing up to 50 pounds.

Union Affiliation

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the United Michigan Medicine Allied Professionals (UMMAP).
