About the role

Under general supervision, this position provides support to the primary care provider and team by delivering patient care, assisting with procedures, managing patient follow-up, and maintaining efficient patient flow. The role involves interaction with internal departments, businesses, insurance companies, and billing services.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in urgent and emergent medical situations and operates emergency equipment.
  • Ensures patient follow-up processes, including referrals, lab work, and obtaining patient education materials.
  • Manages patient flow to optimize room utilization and minimize wait times.
  • Cleans, prepares, and stocks patient exam areas and workstations.
  • Maintains essential ambulatory equipment, instruments, and supplies; assists in cleaning, sterilization, and inventory management.
  • Documents patient care information in the medical record per policies and procedures.
  • Obtains vital signs, identifies the reason for the visit, and prepares patients for examination.
  • Performs basic testing procedures (e.g., EKG, urine dipstick, pregnancy tests) and administers injections as ordered by the physician.
  • Prepares and supports patients and assists providers with medical procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Note: Pre-Admissions Testing MAs do not perform the italicized duties listed above.

Qualifications

  • General knowledge and skills necessary to provide appropriate patient care.
  • Understanding of growth and development principles across the life span.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures for patient care.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology.
  • Proficient operational knowledge of medical equipment and infection control.
  • Demonstrated professionalism, courtesy, and non-judgmental behavior.
  • Effective interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to recognize medical emergencies and provide care under stressful conditions.
  • Ability to assess and interpret patient data to address age-specific needs.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Strong multitasking, prioritization, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to respond to patient needs with empathy and compassion.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • 1 year of experience as a Medical Assistant.
  • Certified or Registered Medical Assistant through a nationally recognized association (required within 60 days of hire, except for those hired before 12/31/19).
  • BLS Certification.
