About the Role

The Medical Assistant (MA) will be responsible for direct patient care and provides clinical support to providers. Duties include obtaining patient medical history information, expediting patient flow, rooming patients, stocking clinic supplies, navigating the electronic health record system, scheduling and following up with appointments, and assisting with medication fill requests, prior authorizations, and scheduling tests, procedures, and consults. The MA will communicate with pharmacies, insurance companies, patients, and physicians in a respectful manner and follow UK HealthCare values for service excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain patient medical history information
  • Expedite patient flow and room patients
  • Stock clinic with supplies
  • Navigate electronic health record system
  • Schedule and follow up with appointments
  • Assist with medication fill requests, prior authorizations, and scheduling tests, procedures, and consults
  • Communicate with pharmacies, insurance companies, patients, and physicians

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • One of the following certifications or qualifications:
    • State Registered Nurse Assistant (SRNA)
    • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
    • Registered Nurse (RN) nursing student who has completed first fundamental course and a clinical
    • Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) / medic including military medic
    • Graduate from a medical assistant program
    • Graduate from a licensed practical nursing program
    • Clinical Services Technician (CST) III at UK in the last 12 months
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for the Healthcare Provider through American Heart Association (AHA) at time of hire
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull 50-100 pounds on a daily basis
  • Ability to stand, walk, and sit for long periods of time

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1 year of clinical experience
  • Experience with insurance, scheduling, and other patient-related activities
  • Experience with UK’s registration/scheduling system (RSS)

Physical Requirements

The conditions of work may involve exposure to communicable diseases and injury from intractable patients or sharp instruments.

Pay

$18.54 - $24.82 per hour

Schedule

  • Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
  • May require some holidays
  • Other days/times determined by department needs and urgent situations
