About the role

Northwest Arkansas Community College (NWACC) seeks a Medical Assistant Instructor to join our team. Reporting to the Dean of Health Professions, this position is responsible for instructing courses and correlating laboratory exercises for each course taught. The instructor will also update curriculum based on industry specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Create and update course syllabi for each course taught.
  • Provide instruction covering the curriculum for assigned classes.
  • Affirm compliance with program expectations and support program outcomes.
  • Conduct student evaluations and use continuous quality improvement techniques to assess the effectiveness of instruction and student success.
  • Discuss student concerns and problems directly or indirectly related to the learning experience.
  • Assist students in developing an understanding of values, attitudes, and ideals appropriate to the health care profession.
  • Maintain accurate student records and identify students needing assistance.
  • Create a respectful and culturally diverse classroom environment.
  • Create reports as requested by the Dean of Health Professions and NWACC.
  • Participate in program development activities.
  • Aid in enforcing program regulations and reporting student conduct violations.
  • Cultivate a personal interest in the communities served by the program and participate in community activities.
  • Make recommendations to the Dean of Health Professions for selection of supplies, equipment, equipment repairs, textbooks, and classroom and laboratory facilities.
  • Maintain current knowledge in the subject matter area and effective teaching/learning strategies.
  • Model a professional role for students.

Requirements

  • Currently licensed/certified as a Medical Assistant.
  • The formal education equivalent to an associate degree in a healthcare or closely related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years as a licensed/certified medical assistant.
  • Preferred qualifications include a bachelor's degree in a healthcare or closely related field, minimum of 5 years as a licensed/certified medical assistant, and formal teaching experience.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Visio).
  • Strong time management, multi-tasking, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to build relationships with individuals and teams across the institution, campus, and industry.
  • Ability to analyze information and recommend appropriate actions.
  • Knowledge of planning, research, and analysis techniques and procedures.
  • Knowledge of department, operations, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to conduct research and perform quantitative quality assurance reviews.
  • Ability to research, prepare, and present comprehensive written and oral reports.
  • Ability to organize and conduct meetings and workshops.
  • Knowledge of state and federal personnel laws, policies, and procedures.

Physical Demands

The employee must continuously sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, talk or hear, reach with hands and arms, taste or smell, occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally walk. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions and expectations. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Environmental Conditions

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision. The work environment is usually moderate in noise level and includes on-site, in-person instruction.

$765 per credit hour
