Responsibilities

  • Complete the clinical intake requirements. For example, measures and records patient-specific information: height, weight, respiration, pulse, blood pressure, temperature, pulse oximetry (SpO₂), and head circumference as appropriate, documenting accurately in the EMR.
  • Administers immunizations under provider direction, including providing Vaccine Information Statements (VIS), updating OSIIS, and documenting accurately in the EMR.
  • Collects patient specimens (e.g., throat and nasal swabs) following established protocols.
  • Follows clinical policies, procedures, and standards to support patient safety, accuracy, and efficient clinic flow.
  • Utilizes the EMR to complete assigned tasks accurately and timely.
  • Uses standard medical/psychiatric terminology and medication references as required for assigned duties.
  • Demonstrates attention to detail to ensure accurate documentation, specimen handling, and task completion.
  • Communicates effectively with patients, providers, and team members using appropriate written, verbal, and non-verbal communication.
  • Accepts feedback and incorporates coaching to improve performance and consistency.
  • Manages assigned tasks using basic time-management and prioritization skills.
  • Identifies patient concerns or issues and escalates appropriately.
  • Demonstrates respectful, patient-centered interactions that value patient perspectives.
  • May be required to float within the clinic to maintain business continuity.

Psychiatric Specialty Clinics

  • Serves as a liaison with rural clinic staff to support clinic-to-clinic visits.
  • Assists in troubleshooting pharmacy and EPIC/eVist scheduling concerns.
  • Ensures all screening tools and paperwork are completed timely.
  • Administers long-acting injections.

  • Provides leadership and works with all staff to achieve the goals of the “Quintuple Aim” of healthcare reform—to improve the experience of care, improve health outcomes, and decrease healthcare costs.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Demonstrated proficiency of core competencies within 90 days of employment, including:
    • Foundational clinical skills
    • Accurate and timely documentation
    • Reliability in assigned workflows
    • Openness to coaching and feedback
    • Commitment to continued skill development
  • Must complete and pass CPR course within 90 days of employment.
  • Possess intermediate computer skills, including data entry and typing.
  • Knowledge of instrumentation used in lab point-of-care testing, as directed, within 90 days.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information in accordance with HIPAA and Variety Care policy.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with the patient population.
  • Ability to work in a multi-faceted, fast-paced work environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Medical Assistant Certificate preferred; demonstrated proficiency in foundational clinical competencies may be considered in lieu of certification.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) – speak, write, and comprehend.
  • Previous clinic or primary practice/behavioral health experience.

Essential Functions

  • Able to lift at least 25 pounds.
  • Able to assist patients onto and off exam table when asked or directed.
