Responsibilities
- Complete the clinical intake requirements. For example, measures and records patient-specific information: height, weight, respiration, pulse, blood pressure, temperature, pulse oximetry (SpO₂), and head circumference as appropriate, documenting accurately in the EMR.
- Administers immunizations under provider direction, including providing Vaccine Information Statements (VIS), updating OSIIS, and documenting accurately in the EMR.
- Collects patient specimens (e.g., throat and nasal swabs) following established protocols.
- Follows clinical policies, procedures, and standards to support patient safety, accuracy, and efficient clinic flow.
- Utilizes the EMR to complete assigned tasks accurately and timely.
- Uses standard medical/psychiatric terminology and medication references as required for assigned duties.
- Demonstrates attention to detail to ensure accurate documentation, specimen handling, and task completion.
- Communicates effectively with patients, providers, and team members using appropriate written, verbal, and non-verbal communication.
- Accepts feedback and incorporates coaching to improve performance and consistency.
- Manages assigned tasks using basic time-management and prioritization skills.
- Identifies patient concerns or issues and escalates appropriately.
- Demonstrates respectful, patient-centered interactions that value patient perspectives.
- May be required to float within the clinic to maintain business continuity.
Psychiatric Specialty Clinics
- Serves as a liaison with rural clinic staff to support clinic-to-clinic visits.
- Assists in troubleshooting pharmacy and EPIC/eVist scheduling concerns.
- Ensures all screening tools and paperwork are completed timely.
- Administers long-acting injections.

Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Demonstrated proficiency of core competencies within 90 days of employment, including:
- Foundational clinical skills
- Accurate and timely documentation
- Reliability in assigned workflows
- Openness to coaching and feedback
- Commitment to continued skill development
- Must complete and pass CPR course within 90 days of employment.
- Possess intermediate computer skills, including data entry and typing.
- Knowledge of instrumentation used in lab point-of-care testing, as directed, within 90 days.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of information in accordance with HIPAA and Variety Care policy.
- Ability to effectively communicate with the patient population.
- Ability to work in a multi-faceted, fast-paced work environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Medical Assistant Certificate preferred; demonstrated proficiency in foundational clinical competencies may be considered in lieu of certification.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) – speak, write, and comprehend.
- Previous clinic or primary practice/behavioral health experience.
Essential Functions
- Able to lift at least 25 pounds.
- Able to assist patients onto and off exam table when asked or directed.
