About the role
Connecticut GI, a division of GI Alliance, is seeking a Per Diem Medical Assistant to join their South Windsor Care Center. This position is part of a rapidly growing gastroenterology practice with over 30 Care Centers across Connecticut.
Responsibilities
- Rooming patients and obtaining vital signs (blood pressure, height, and weight)
- Updating patient’s medical history including medication list
- Appropriately documenting all patient phone calls and providing test results under the direction of the provider
- Familiarity with the prior authorization process
- Able to ask appropriate triage questions and accurately record in Epic EMR
Requirements
- Graduated from an accredited MA program (preferred)
- At least one full year of medical assistant experience
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Broad knowledge of medical terminology (1+ year of healthcare experience)
- EMR experience is ideal, Epic experience is a plus
- The ability to prioritize and multitask in a fast-paced, sometimes stressful environment
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED, medical assistant diploma from an accredited vocational institution, or college course in medical assisting
- Minimum one year of recent experience working in a medical facility as a medical assistant and/or documented evidence of externship completed in a medical office
- Experience working in a Gastroenterology practice is preferred
- Knowledge of health care field and EMR systems
- Skill in performing medical assistance tasks appropriately
- Skill in written and verbal communications
- Skill in understanding patient education needs by effectively sharing information with patients and families
- Ability to learn and retain information regarding patient care practices and procedures
- Ability to project a pleasant and professional image
- Ability to plan, prioritize, and complete delegated tasks
- Ability to multi-task
- Ability to demonstrate compassion and caring in dealing with others
