Key Responsibilities

  • Directs and supports patient flow as well as unit operations by maintaining supplies, equipment and unit environmental standards.
  • Facilitates identification of resources to meet patient healthcare needs.
  • Performs/assists with procedures according to organizational/departmental standards.
  • Collections and documents patient screening data for the healthcare team.
  • Aids in patient and family education.
  • Coordinates any follow-up appointments or procedures required for patient.
  • Schedules appointments or procedures through clinical communication or direct request.
  • Supports the physician's/advanced practice practitioner documentation and/or activities during the visit.

Technical Capabilities

  • Planning & Organizing (Fundamental Awareness): Demonstrates ability to anticipate basic resource needs, identify discrete tasks, set priorities, define dependencies, schedule activities, meet deadlines, and organize work for own assignments and responsibilities.
  • Environment of Care (Novice): Demonstrates sufficient fundamental proficiency with set up and maintenance of patient exam room, supplies and equipment.
  • Clinical Competencies (Novice): Demonstrates sufficient fundamental proficiency to assist and perform clinical care including but not limited to vital signs, phlebotomy, specimen collection, medication administration and point of care testing as directed by unit standards.
  • Clinical Patient Documentation (Novice): Possesses sufficient fundamental proficiency to successfully demonstrate patient documentation in practical applications of moderate difficulty.
  • Medical Terminology & Documentation (Novice): Possesses sufficient fundamental proficiency to successfully demonstrate medical terminology and documentation in practical applications of moderate difficulty.
  • Patient Scheduling (Novice): The ability to coordinate and schedule patient appointments, surgeries and other office visits with various computer systems in the hospital or clinic.

  • Organizational Impact: Performs clearly defines tasks and methods described in detail to achieve standardized solutions that impact own performance with regular guidance.
  • Problem Solving/ Complexity of work: Follows a well established process to solve routine problems where solutions are clearly prescribed.
  • Breadth of Knowledge: Has basic job knowledge of systems and procedures that are common to own job.
