Medical Administrative Assistant (Spanish Bilingual) - Surgery
About the Role
This role is 85% front desk/administrative in nature, with the remaining 15% focused on clinical duties. The position supports faculty specializing in transgender surgery at NYEE. The Medical Administrative Assistant provides secretarial and clinical support to physicians and surgeons, ensuring the delivery of quality patient care.
Responsibilities
- Schedule appointments for patients.
- Take detailed clinical phone messages for physicians or advanced allied healthcare providers.
- Acquire insurance authorizations for procedures and tests ordered by attending physicians.
- Enter orders into the electronic medical record (EMR) system or prepare prescription refill requests on behalf of the physician for review and approval.
- Maintain a logging system for tracking test results.
- Assist in maintaining medical charts and/or electronic medical records (filing, Op Reports, test results, home care forms).
- Schedule surgeries/procedures, verify times with patients, and prepare charts, pre-admissions, and consent forms as necessary.
- Perform Medical Assistant duties if qualified, such as venipuncture, EKGs, checking schedules, organizing patient flow, assisting patients with walking, transferring, and dressing, collecting and processing specimens, and preparing for exams.
- Assist physicians with procedures, take vital signs, relay instructions to patients and families, answer calls, and provide pertinent information.
- Retrieve and edit physician correspondence from dictation services.
- Prepare physicians' mail correspondence.
- Compile documents for surgical billing packages.
- Maintain, adjust, and confirm patient office schedules.
- Help direct patient flow during practice hours.
- Participate in revenue cycle processes.
- Perform medical scribe responsibilities as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Associates Degree or High School Diploma/GED plus two years of related experience.
- Graduate of a Medical Assistant Program if performing clinical duties.
- 3 years of related experience.
- Certification: Certified Medical Assistant required if performing Medical Assistant duties.

Compensation
The salary range for this role is $26.2377 - $32.727 per hour. Actual salaries depend on factors such as experience, education, and operational need. This range does not include bonuses, differential pay, or other forms of compensation or benefits.
