About the Role

The Certified Nursing Assistant, or Patient Care Assistant (PCA), functions as a member of the patient care team under the direction of the Registered Nurse (RN). The PCA proficiently and consistently performs all aspects of the role, supporting the RN with clinical tasks such as blood glucose monitoring, completing EKGs, applying simple dressings, using aseptic technique, and responding to medical emergency situations utilizing Heartsaver CPR and AED skills.

The PCA responds to the needs of patients and family members and plays an active role in the efficient operation of the unit. The role ensures the practice of the Patient and Family Centered Care Model in an environment that exemplifies best practices.

BWFH 6 South is a 37-bed, fast-paced medicine/telemetry teaching unit supporting medical education and training. The unit provides care for a diverse adult population with acute and chronic conditions, including asthma, COPD, renal disease, DKA, DVT, flu, HTN, PE, pneumonia, sepsis, UTI, and other clinical conditions. The unit is equipped with the latest technology, including telemetry, Vocera, Epic, and virtual patient observation using a Constant Monitoring System (CVM).

Responsibilities

• Support the RN with clinical tasks, including blood glucose monitoring, completing EKGs, applying simple dressings, and using aseptic technique.
• Respond to medical emergency situations utilizing Heartsaver CPR and AED skills.
• Address the needs of patients and family members.
• Contribute to the efficient operation of the unit.
• Uphold the Patient and Family Centered Care Model.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED certificate required.
• Certified Nursing Assistant certification or current nursing student who has completed Fundamentals of Nursing or equivalent med/surg clinical rotation.
• AHA Heartsaver, CPR, and AED certification required.

Pay

$18.56 - $27.58/hour.

Schedule

• Per Diem and holiday requirements.
• Rotating shifts.
• Onsite work location: 1153 Centre Street, Jamaica Plain.
