About the role
The Certified Nursing Assistant, also known as Patient Care Assistant (PCA), functions as a member of the patient care team under the direction of the Registered Nurse (RN). This role supports clinical tasks such as blood glucose monitoring, completing EKGs, applying simple dressings, using aseptic technique, and responding to medical emergencies with Heartsaver CPR and AED skills. The PCA also addresses patient and family needs and contributes to the efficient operation of the unit while ensuring the practice of the Patient and Family Centered Care Model.
BWFH 6 South is a fast-paced, 37-bed medicine/telemetry teaching unit supporting medical education and training. The unit cares for a diverse adult population with acute and chronic conditions, including asthma, COPD, renal disease, DKA, DVT, flu, HTN, PE, pneumonia, sepsis, and UTI. It is equipped with advanced technology such as telemetry, Vocera, Epic, and virtual patient observation using a Constant Monitoring System (CVM).
Responsibilities
- Support the RN with clinical tasks, including blood glucose monitoring and completing EKGs.
- Apply simple dressings using aseptic technique.
- Respond to medical emergency situations utilizing Heartsaver CPR and AED skills.
- Address the needs of patients and family members.
- Contribute to the efficient operation of the unit.
- Ensure the practice of the Patient and Family Centered Care Model.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED certificate required.
- Certified Nursing Assistant certification or current nursing student who has completed Fundamentals of Nursing or equivalent med/surg clinical rotation.
- AHA Heartsaver, CPR, and AED certification required.

Pay
$18.56 - $27.58 per hour.
Schedule
- Night shift (United States of America).
- 40 scheduled weekly hours.
- Onsite work location: 1153 Centre Street, Jamaica Plain.
