About the role

Join the MercyOne Family as a Med Technologist in our Core Lab. You will act as a technical information resource, identify problems that may adversely affect test performance or results, and use your knowledge, critical thinking skills, and judgment to troubleshoot and resolve them. You may be assigned to assume the duties of a charge technologist and perform tasks and procedures specific to the assigned department with minimal supervision.

You will use your educational and technical expertise to troubleshoot issues related to specimen quality, instrument/method performance, and analytical interferences to ensure patient results match clinical status. You will assist and support quality management systems and performance improvement initiatives, work independently, organize work to meet established deadlines, and maintain records. Additional responsibilities include maintaining supply inventories, training new employees, acting as a preceptor for laboratory students, operating laboratory information systems, personal computers, and instrument-related computer software, and providing exceptional customer service to internal and external customers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or in Chemistry, Biology, or a related field.
  • One-year clinical internship in a National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science (NAACLS) accredited clinical laboratory science program or an approved alternate career path that meets certification eligibility requirements.
  • Certification in one of the following:
    • Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or Medical Technologist (MT) by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP).
    • Medical Technologist (MT) by the American Medical Technologists (AMT).
    • Medical Technologist (MT) by the American Association of Bioanalysts (AAB).
  • A person may be hired into this position if they have completed the educational requirements and are eligible for the certification exam. The exam must be successfully completed within six (6) months of hire.
  • Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training for child and dependent adult abuse within three (3) months of hire.
