Med Technologist Core Lab

About the role

Join the MercyOne Family as a Medical Technologist in our Core Lab. You will act as a technical information resource, identify and resolve problems that may adversely affect test performance or results, and use critical thinking skills to troubleshoot issues related to specimen quality, instrument/method performance, and analytical interferences. You may assume the duties of a charge technologist and perform tasks with minimal supervision, ensuring patient results match clinical status. Additionally, you will support quality management systems, performance improvement initiatives, and provide exceptional customer service to internal and external customers.

Responsibilities

• Act as a technical information resource for the laboratory.
• Identify and troubleshoot problems affecting test performance or results.
• Perform tasks and procedures specific to the assigned department with minimal supervision.
• Use educational and technical expertise to resolve issues related to specimen quality, instrument/method performance, and analytical interferences.
• Support quality management systems and performance improvement initiatives.
• Work independently, organizing work to meet established deadlines and records.
• Maintain supply inventories.
• Train new employees and act as a preceptor for laboratory students.
• Operate laboratory information systems, personal computers, and instrument-related computer software.
• Provide exceptional customer service to internal and external customers.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or in Chemistry, Biology, or a related field.
• One-year clinical internship in a National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science (NAACLS) accredited clinical laboratory science program or an approved alternate career path that meets certification eligibility requirements.
• Certification in one of the following:
  • Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or Medical Technologist (MT) by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP).
  • Medical Technologist (MT) by the American Medical Technologists (AMT).
  • Medical Technologist (MT) by the American Association of Bioanalysts (AAB).
• If hired without certification, the exam must be successfully completed within six (6) months of hire.
• Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training for child and dependent adult abuse within three (3) months of hire.
