Responsibilities

• Accurately and timely distribute and document medication for residents in accordance with each resident’s physician’s orders and applicable regulations.
• Aid with activities of daily living, including assisting with bathing, showering, shampooing, dressing, oral hygiene, shaving, hair and fingernail care, and helping residents with self-administration of prescribed medications.
• Report refusals and/or reactions to supervisor on duty.
• Supervise and care for residents on a daily basis according to their needs.
• Order meal trays for residents when needed.
• Report and record observations of changes in residents’ condition to the director or supervisor in the daily logbook.
• Transfer relevant information to the next shift through the shift-to-shift verbal report.
• Implement personal care plans for each resident.
• Communicate with staff, residents, and visitors in a patient and understanding manner, speaking slowly and clearly.
• Provide assistance in the dining room as needed.
• Administer medication as directed by supervisor.
• Answer emergency calls promptly and complete required paperwork afterward.
• Retrieve soiled linen and personal clothing from resident living areas, sort and pre-soak linens as required, and process them through washing machines.
• Responsible for general upkeep and cleanliness of a resident’s room, including emptying waste baskets, wiping up spills, washing dishes, putting away clothes, checking refrigerators for spoiled food, making beds, changing linens, and observing and reporting anything in need of repair to maintenance.
• Document clearly and objectively on residents in the logbook and on other documents.
• Participate in in-service educational programs as required by the community and state.

Requirements

• Annual verification of a negative TB skin test.
• Ability to move intermittently throughout the workday.
• Coping with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
• Ability to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately.
• Maintain the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this facility, which include a medical and physical examination.
• Ability to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and, at times, agitated residents.
• Ability to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a minimum height of 5 feet and be able to push, pull, move, and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet.
• Ability to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.
