Responsibilities
- Accurately and timely distribute and document medication for residents in accordance with each resident’s physician’s orders and applicable regulations.
- Aid with activities of daily living, including bathing, showering, shaving, hair and fingernail care, dressing, oral hygiene, and help with meals.
- Observe, supervise, and record resident self-administration of prescribed medications.
- Report refusals and/or reactions to supervisor on duty.
- Order meal trays for residents when needed.
- Report and record observations of changes in residents’ condition to director or supervisor in the daily logbook.
- Transfer relevant information to the next shift through the shift-to-shift verbal report.
- Implement personal care plans for each resident.
- Communicate with staff, residents, and visitors in a patient and understanding manner, speaking slowly and clearly.
- Provide assistance in dining room as needed.
- Administer medication as directed by supervisor.
- Answer emergency calls promptly and courteously, complete required paperwork afterward.
- Retrieve soiled linen and personal clothing from resident living areas. Sort and pre-soak linens as required before processing through washing machines.
- Responsible for general upkeep and cleanliness of a resident’s room, including emptying waste baskets, wiping up spills, washing dishes, putting away clothes, checking refrigerator for spoiled food, making beds, changing linens, and observing condition of room/apartment.
- Report anything in need of repair to maintenance.
- Document clearly and objectively on residents in logbook and on other documents.
- Participate in in-service educational programs as required by the community and state.
Requirements
- Annual verification of a negative TB skin test.
- Proof of full COVID-19 vaccination required with exceptions for medical and religious accommodations.
- Moves intermittently throughout the workday.
- Copes with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
- Sees and hears or uses prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately.
- Meets the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this facility, which include a medical and physical examination.
- Relates to and works with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and, at times, agitated residents.
- Able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a minimum height of 5 feet and be able to push, pull, move, and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet.
- Necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.
