Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Staff Supervision and Leadership
- Aids in hiring unit employees, oversees training, counsels when necessary, and provides input on performance evaluations for direct-reporting staff.
- Develops and maintains staff nurse onboarding program.
- Filters and prioritizes communication from the staff nurse team to upper management.
- Collaborates with the Manager regarding staff concerns and/or issues.
- Ensures adequate daily staffing and 24-hour coverage across the units.
- Aids in coordinating coverage for immediate staffing shortages.
- Aids the Manager in establishing work standards that provide a high level of customer satisfaction.
- Demonstrates leadership and professional growth, and acts as a resource and mentor for other nurses.
- Clinical and Daily Operations
- Performs all aspects of the Staff Nurse ICU job description and assists in patient care and procedures as needed.
- Aids the Manager in overseeing daily clinical operations, ensuring delivery of the highest levels of clinical quality and customer service in the most cost-effective manner.
- Communicates throughout the day with physicians and staff to ensure optimal coordination in the delivery of medical services.
- Implements operational changes as directed by the Manager, MedSurg/ICU.
- Serves as the site specialist for computer software used to manage department operations, educating staff on optimal use and troubleshooting issues with IT as needed.
- Administrative and Quality
- Assists the Manager with audits, statistics, policies and procedures as needed, and monitors and maintains department records and documentation.
- Actively supports and participates in the organization-wide Quality Performance Improvement Plan and department quality improvement programs.
- Strives to attain and maintain regional "best practice" recognition.
- Attends ICU/MedSurg meetings as an alternate for the Manager and assists in coordinating staff meetings and skills days.
- Actively applies communication principles.
- Completes special projects as requested.
- Minimum Education/Experience: Bachelor's Degree Graduation from a National League of Nursing (NLN), Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) or equivalent accredited school of nursing. and 1-2 years relevant experience
- Required Licenses/Certifications: California Registered Nurse (RN) Upon hire Nevada Registered Nurse (RN) Upon hire BLS/ACLS: Employee will be enrolled in the Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI) Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Life Support (ALS). Entry or Prep Curriculum (depending on their previous BLS and ACLS certification). Upon hire Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS): Employees that have never been certified must take a live initial AHA certification class. Employees with recently expired certifications will be enrolled in Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI). Certification must be completed within specified time frame. Within 6 months of hire into job
- Other Experience/Qualifications: Five years ICU and/or Medical-Surgical/ Telemetry experienceAbility to communicate well with othersPrior experience as a Charge Nurse / Team LeadDemonstrates competence in general nursing skills
