Med Assistant Device Technician - FT - Day - Cardiology Specialists Newtown PA

Position Overview

Interrogates pacemakers and ICDs, monitors remote access of devices, coordinates treatment and care for patients with devices, interacts with clients, patients, and practice staff, provides patient care, communicates, organizes, and resolves issues with regard to monitoring, presents patients to the doctor in clinic, alerts doctor of any problems with patient or device, ensures accurate recording, reporting, and authorization; other data entry includes billing codes; coordinates clinic scheduling needs, including coordination of device tech vendors and representatives; enrolls patients electronically for remote monitoring and educates patients on device care and follow-up including home monitoring instructions; provides proper support as medical assistant as necessary (prepares and rooms patient, takes vitals/bp, conducts EKG or ECT, reviews meds); may perform INR for Coumadin and refill scripts, assists with clinical calls from patients, physician offices, hospitals, and nursing homes; handles nursing emails sent from offsite remote monitoring company.

• Maintains equipment/systems, follows operating instructions, reports hazardous conditions, troubleshoots, calibrates equipment, follows preventive maintenance procedures, anticipates repair requirements, calls for repairs.
• Promotes positive patient relations, assures confidentiality of all information related to patients, organizes priorities, works independently and as a member of a team to complete tasks, supports team to ensure delivery of excellent patient care by assisting with and assuming diversified tasks as required, rotates as needed among various office locations, maintains a satisfactory working relationship with peers and superiors, provides feedback to management to maintain and improve quality of service, keeps manager aware of potential issues as they arise.
• Demonstrates flexibility and cooperation in relation to workplace staffing and manpower needs, performs work-related duties in a safe manner utilizing sound work practices, use of universal precautions, personal protective equipment, etc., demonstrates self-directed learning through in-service programs, education & QA activities, utilizes and maintains proficiency in all Practice tools, resources, and systems, including SRS, etc., to manage charts, templates, and messages, maintains appropriate required certifications and training, maintains compliance with all Practice policies and protocols, department specific guidelines, and all federal, state and local regulatory standards, including JCAHO, Department of Health, HIPPA, HCFA.

Essential Functions

• Interrogates/reprograms and troubleshoots patients with implantable pacemakers, ICDs and loop recorders.
• Coordinates treatment and care for patients with devices.
• Interacts with clients, patients, and practice staff, providing patient care, communicating, organizing, and resolving issues with regard to monitoring.
• Presents patients to the doctor in clinic.
• Alerts doctor of any problems with patient or device.
• Ensures accurate recording (saving to program), reporting (uploading, creating letters from template for physician review), and authorization (physician signature).
• Other data entry includes billing codes.
• Captures ultrasound echoes for non-invasive peripheral vascular tests.
• Coordinates clinic scheduling needs, including coordination of device tech vendors and representatives.
• Enrolls patients electronically for remote monitoring and educates patients on device care and follow-up including home monitoring instructions.
• Provides proper support as medical assistant as necessary (prepares and rooms patient, takes vitals/bp, conducts EKG or ECT, reviews meds).

Physical Demands and Work Environment

• Frequent physical demands include: Standing, Walking, Reaching forward, Wrist position deviation, Pinching/fine motor activities.
• Occasional physical demands include: Sitting, Climbing (e.g., stairs or ladders), Push/Pull, Twisting, Bending, Reaching overhead, Squat/kneel/crawl, Taste or Smell.
• Continuous physical demands include: Carry objects, Keyboard use/repetitive motion, Talk or Hear.

Sensory Requirements

• Very Accurate 20/40, Near Vision, Accurate Far Vision, Color Discrimination, Moderate Depth Perception, Accurate Hearing.
