About the role

Under general supervision, performs basic nursing procedures on patients. Assists physicians or practitioners with examinations, procedures, and other processes related to direct patient care. Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality-assessment programs, and safety, environmental, and infection-control standards.

Responsibilities

  • Perform basic nursing procedures such as measuring patient height and weight according to oncology best practice, taking vital signs, and completing ambulatory intake.
  • Perform venipunctures and injections as indicated and allowed by scope of practice.
  • Interview and retrieve initial basic evaluation of patient; input information into EMR and report to appropriate practitioner.
  • Maintain a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients and families during visits; demonstrate sensitivity to patient comfort and privacy using AIDET communication fundamentals.
  • Assist physicians or practitioners with examinations, procedures, and other processes related to direct patient care.
  • Ensure adequate stock of supplies and necessary equipment.
  • Monitor and ensure accuracy of recording on patient medical records.
  • Maintain all required reports and statistics.
  • Assist with medical record requests and scanning of documentation into medical records.
  • Inspect area daily for compliance with policies, procedures, regulations, and standards; take corrective action when appropriate.
  • Assist with cleaning and re-stocking examination rooms daily.
  • Transport instruments to sterile processing as needed.
  • Assist with chart prep and provider schedule management.
  • Support provider through assistance with note prep, verbal order entry (per scope of practice and leadership guidelines), order proposal, and prescription refill management.
  • Perform reception role competently, including professional scripting when answering calls, appropriate documentation of messages in message pools, and real-time scheduling/rescheduling of appointments.
  • Demonstrate competence in performing critical skills, including appropriate delivery of care according to age-specific needs of the population served.
  • Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops.
  • Cooperate with other personnel to achieve department objectives and maintain good employee relations, interdepartmental objectives, and infection-control policies.
  • Attend required meetings.
  • Work with a positive attitude; support a positive work environment including teamwork within and outside the immediate department; exhibit initiative daily to progress care for patients and the success of the department.
  • Promote positive relationships with co-workers.
  • Follow policies, procedures, and safety standards.
  • Complete required education assignments annually.
  • Work toward achieving goals and objectives and participate in quality-improvement initiatives as requested.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Certified Medical Assistant required.

Qualifications

None specified; however, must be sufficient to meet the standards for achievement of the required license and/or certification as required by the issuing authority.

Schedule

Full time, 80 hours per pay period, day shift.
