Troubleshooting and Repair

The Mechatronics Technician 1 troubleshoots, repairs, and installs production equipment such as motors, generators, pneumatic equipment, hydraulic equipment, clutches, bearings, pumps, computerized equipment, and other devices. They follow elementary logic/wiring diagrams, pneumatic and hydraulic diagrams, and equipment manuals.

Technical Skills

  • Applies mechanical, electrical, and electronic theory and related knowledge with a primary focus on control systems and a secondary focus on mechanical systems.
  • Diagnoses equipment failures and implements corrective actions to restore equipment to safe and reliable operation.
  • Performs equipment rebuilds, retrofits, and modifications to improve performance and reliability.
  • Fabricates and machines replacement parts and components as required to support equipment repairs and improvements.
  • Installs, assembles, and commissions new production equipment and machinery.
  • Interprets and works from blueprints, electrical schematics, and mechanical drawings.
  • Performs preventative and predictive maintenance tasks and reliability improvements.
  • Safely operates shop equipment, including mills, welders, plasma cutters, and other fabrication tools.
  • Safely operates forklifts, overhead cranes, man lifts, and other powered industrial equipment.
  • Maintains accurate maintenance documentation, including PM reports and work requests.
  • Maintains a clean and organized maintenance shop and work area.
  • Communicates equipment issues, repair status, and improvement opportunities with maintenance leadership and operations.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Technical AAS degree with emphasis on Mechatronics, or in pursuit of a degree.
  • Five or more years of maintenance experience or skilled trades experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems.
  • Experience with welding, machining, and metal fabrication strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of industrial equipment installation and alignment practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and blueprints.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently on complex repairs.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a high-performance team.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and support production needs.

Physical Demands

This position requires the individual to wear and work in company-provided personal protective equipment (PPE). This position requires that the individual be able to lift a minimum of 50lbs. and maneuver large, cumbersome equipment with the use of an overhead crane and/or forklift. Must be able to work in, on, or around equipment and machinery. The employee may need to perform work with the use of ladders.
