Mechatronics Engineer 2
The role is part of the Global Products Group, dedicated to excellence in the design and engineering of Lam's etch and deposition products. You’ll drive innovation to solve the biggest challenges in the semiconductor industry within Mechatronics Engineering, a team with a proven track record in rapid innovation for semiconductor equipment automation, including VORTEX™ wafer handling robots, process chamber mechanisms, and Lam Equipment Intelligence smart devices.
Responsibilities
- Design, analyze, and evaluate mechanical aspects of Robotics and Mechatronics products.
- Work within cross-functional, multidisciplinary teams to develop product specifications, evaluate performance, and deliver solutions.
- Utilize rapid prototyping to demonstrate and iterate designs quickly.
- Spend substantial time hands-on in the Mechatronics lab working with products.
- Collaborate with suppliers to ensure parts meet performance and cost objectives.
- Drive technical innovation and file invention disclosures for novel ideas.
- Develop materials for design reviews following Lam processes.
- Create test criteria and equipment for automated product testing, supporting transition to high-volume manufacturing.
- Conduct failure analysis and drive continual product improvement.
- Follow 8D methodology for repeat or complex problems.
- Manage multiple priorities and projects to meet commitments.
- Address safety issues promptly and escalate as needed.
- Respond quickly to customer requests and anticipate solution needs.
- Contribute to Mechatronics Engineering’s best-known methods database.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering or equivalent experience. For level 2, a Master’s degree or 3 years of industry experience is required.
- Strong design background with solid engineering skills.
- Extensive experience using 3D CAD tools such as CREO, NX, etc.
- Proven analytical skills, including modeling and simulations using FEA applications (e.g., Creo Simulation, COMSOL).
- Ability to design test stands, perform instrumentation, data acquisition, and hands-on testing.
- Familiarity with machining practices, sheet metal fabrication, and other manufacturing methods.
- Experience with additive manufacturing (3D printing) and rapid prototyping.
- Strong problem-solving, time management, communication, and project management skills.
- Ability to work in a team environment with aggressive deadlines and multiple priorities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated passion for Mechatronics, including robotics, industrial automation, and/or sensing/computer vision.
Pay
Salary range for this position in the California, San Francisco Bay Area: $86,000.00 - $183,000.00. Offers depend on factors including location, level, education, training, skills, and experience. Actual salary may vary based on unpaid time off, leave, shutdowns, and other relevant factors.
Schedule
Hybrid work models are available based on role needs:
- On-site Flex: Work 3+ days per week on-site at a Lam or customer/supplier location, with remote work for the balance of the week.
- Virtual Flex: Work 1-2 days per week on-site at a Lam or customer/supplier location, with remote work for the rest of the time.
