Mechanical Test Engineer

About the role

The successful candidate will develop testing strategies for high-speed data cables, supporting manufacturing processes based on industry standards like Ethernet, InfiniBand, Fiber Channel, PCIe, SAS, SATA, etc. They will evaluate mechanical test requirements, review and debug test fixture designs, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure compliance and quality.

Responsibilities

  • Develop production test strategies for high-speed data cable manufacturing
  • Coordinate software development activities across different manufacturing regions
  • Support global deployment of automated production test systems for cable assembly products
  • Direct production test resources to ensure compliant use of deployed test systems
  • Create and execute test plans, conduct requirements reviews, perform test verification and validation, and document results
  • Create test process documentation, specifications, and work instructions
  • Work with manufacturing engineering and fixture design engineering to support Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and manufacturing processes setup
  • Support quality function and sourcing team in supply chain solutions
  • Provide technical support to customers, suppliers, and internal project teams
  • Apply Geometric Dimension and Tolerancing (GD&T) to engineering drawings
  • Understand and apply Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and analysis lead design approach
  • Contribute to Molex TQM and Quality/Environmental Management Systems

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent discipline
  • High proficiency in analytical tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other relevant software
  • Proficient in solid modeling software to generate 3D models and 2D drafting
  • Understanding of GD&T and tolerance analysis, limits & fits, ASME Y14.5
  • Working knowledge of product/tool DFM, DFA, and DFX techniques

Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of standard mechanical test equipment
  • Good working knowledge in tooling design, especially in die & automation tooling, gigs & fixtures/pallets
  • 2+ years of experience in test and measurement
