About the role

The Mechanical Technician position is available at the School/Center: TRANSPORTATION in the Location: Melbourne Shop, 3200 S. Monroe St.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and repair buses and support vehicles according to manufacturer specifications and district standards.
  • Perform routine maintenance on buses and support vehicles.
  • Assist in the training of new employees and provide technical guidance.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and policies.
  • Document all work performed and maintain accurate records.

Requirements

  • HS Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Two years journeyman level experiences as an automotive or diesel mechanic or one year in Brevard County School District’s Bus or support vehicle maintenance facility, with favorable evaluation from the Shop Supervisor and/or Assistant Director.
  • Valid Florida Commercial Driver License (CDL), Class B or higher with air brakes, passenger endorsement (P), and School Bus (S).
  • Certified D.O.E. school bus inspector.

Qualifications

  • MECHANICAL TECHNICIAN 1: HS Diploma or equivalent required. Experience may be substituted. Two years journeyman level experiences as an automotive or diesel mechanic or one year in Brevard County School District’s Bus or support vehicle maintenance facility, with favorable evaluation from the Shop Supervisor and/or Assistant Director.
  • MECHANICAL TECHNICIAN 2: HS Diploma or equivalent required. Experience may be substituted. Five years journeyman level experience as an automotive or diesel mechanic.

Skills

  • Computer skills are desired.
  • A.S.E. Certification in Heavy Duty Truck Repair, School Bus Repair, and/or Automobile repair is preferred, with a five (5) percent supplement if obtained.
  • FAPT Master Repair Technician Certification (MRT) is preferred, with a five (5) percent supplement if obtained.

Pay

  • MECHANICAL TECHNICIAN 1: Pay Grade KK, starting salary at $20.24.
  • MECHANICAL TECHNICIAN 2: Pay Grade LL, starting salary at $20.70.

Schedule

  • Full-time position with 8.000 hours per week.
